Enjoying A Family Nature Walk
There are many fun family activities you can do to strengthen family bonds
, learn together, and have an enjoyable time. Taking a nature walk is one of these things.
Nature is absolutely beautiful and there are many health benefits that you can enjoy from simply taking a walk in it. Walks in nature are great family activities when you need something that will expend the energy that the children have and when you need to let go of stress yourself.
Nature walks are also a great learning opportunity both for you and your children. Not only will your children be able to expend energy on this nature walk, but it can boost your child's attention span, creativity, and so forth.
As a family, these walks can strengthen family bonds and bring you closer together. You do not have to travel to the wild wilderness to enjoy nature.
All you have to do is travel to a local park, walking path, or maybe even your own backyard. Nature walks are not boring and there are many exciting things that you can do on them.
For example, one of the things that your children will probably naturally do is explore. There is much to see and play with besides what is directly on the path.
The only things that limit exploration are how much time you have to spend and the age of your children. You can build a secret fort out of stick, you can make up stories about how a river came to be, and you can see how many different plant or animal species you can find.
Be sure to help your children see both the small things as well as the large things. There is an entirely different world under the leaves and under our feet.
Take a minute to stop and look at the small world of insects, dirt, and young plants. Then, look up and see the gigantic trees and everything that lives above the ground.
This is a good opportunity to teach your children about how to protect and conserve the environment. Be sure to emphasis the importance of watching out for these amazing plants and animals.
As a parent do not be afraid to get your hands dirty. Your children will have no reservations, so you should not either.
Use materials around you to teach your children about birds and how they build a nest. Try to build a nest with the things you find such as grass, twigs, leaves, and so forth.
Let your children help so that they realize how hard it is to build a nest. Then, talk about how they have fingers where the bird only has a beak to work with.
As you continue your walk, look for new species of birds and see how many you can count. It can also be a lot of fun to look out for signs of animals that you may not see on your walk.
If the path you are on is dirt, you may be able to see tracks of animals that walked there during the night. Snow can also store animal tracks if you are taking a walk during the winter.
Look for the tracks of deer, coyote, rodents, birds, and so forth. You may even find the track of other humans!
As you walk, be sure to take time to slow down, observe, and enjoy the walk. The point of the walk is wasted if you do not do this.
On the walk you are spending time with your family and with nature so that you can learn about nature and come closer to each other. These things cannot be done without a sacrifice of time.
Strictly time budgeted planners do not help children at all. Free time is critical to the development of a child and free time in nature is one of the best kinds of free time you could give him or her as in comparison with video or computer games.
As you slow down, you will be able to fully appreciate nature and you will be able to teach your children how to fully appreciate nature. Do not be ashamed if you do not know the answer to a question that you child asks.
Instead, tell your child that you do not know what the answer is and when you go home, have the child help you look up the answer. This will teach your child important research skills and show him or her how to find answers to his or her questions.
It can be a learning process for the whole family this way. Besides, children may get frustrated if they feel like you have all of the answers and will not listen to other possibilities.
