This auspicious festival is one of the most famous temple festivals of India.The view of the elephants that are decked up from head to toe is a sight to behold. Around 30 elephants are prepared for the procession. Elephant processions are one of the major draws of this event. During the processions the idols of the heavenly deities are carried from several temples in various villages of Thrissur. In the end the procession culminates at Vadakkunnathan Temple. The whole celebration is an overwhelming attraction which must not be missed when you are traveling to Kerala. The entire procession looks fabulous and transports the spectators to the era of raja-maharajas. The temple is nestled on a hillock at the centre of the city. The festival is also marked by firework which is a main attraction for children.
The festival is celebrated for 7 days in the month of April/May. Tourists from far and wide come here in huge number to enjoy this festival.
