Edinburgh is a lovely city to visit all year round, but if you're a bit of a culture vulture you definitely want to book your tickets for the summer months. The historic Scottish capital opens its doors wide when the sun comes out, and between June and September you'll find a massive range of creative festivals taking place. The first festival to arrive in Edinburgh each year is the film festival (EIFF), which typically takes place in the latter half of June.

A number of other festivals overlap during the month of August, including the International Book Festival where you'll find many workshops, talks and signings from esteemed authors and the Jazz and Blues Festival, which offers many live gigs and performances and typically takes place in the first week of August.
If you're planning to visit Edinburgh to make the most of one, or all, of its excellent festivals, then you're well advised to make sure you book your accommodation with plenty of time to spare.
