Visiting Arki Fort

The Arki Fort is one of the fine rewards of your travel to Shimla, especially if you happen to be a history buff. The fort has seen a lot of rich history and the architecture is a rich fusion of Mughal and Rajput styles. The walls are adorned with the Pahari style of paintings depicting the everyday life of hill folks. The fort was built by the Arki king, Rana Prithvi Singh and to this day, descendants of the royal family stay in one of the portions of the fort. The park is home to around 180 species of colourful birds and animals including the highly elusive snow leopards and the extremely rare musk deer. If you want to experience the park in its full glory, sign up for a five to eight day trek arranged by the park rangers at Sai Ropa Tourist Center. The rangers will escort you throughout the trek. Those with pious leanings would be happy to know that are numerous revered temples near the park. However, you should plan your trip during summer or the fall months if you are interested in visiting the temples.
