Eccentric exercises are based on the principle which says that muscles increase if tension on it is advanced. One example that could be given for this exercise is that when someone is pulling your arm with full strength and you are trying to keep it in locked position, and then there will be muscle gain in your arm because of the tension which is caused due to the pull. A better way to explain eccentric exercises would be to call them the opposite of isotonic exercises. For those who don't know, all exercises which involve the lifting of weights is known as isotonic exercises.

One of the most common injuries that happen to sportspersons is the tennis elbow which, as the name suggests, is caused due to overuse of the muscles connected to the elbow caused while playing sports like tennis, cricket, baseball or any other racquet sport. To get rid of this injury, we can do an eccentric exercise which involves the use of the resistance band. To do this, we need to secure one end of the resistance band under our foot and hold the other end by the hand which has been affected by the tennis elbow. Then we use our other hand to pull the injured hand by the wrist. When you do this you have to make sure that only 2% of the tension falls on the injured hand and the rest is absorbed by the other hand. Do 3 sets of this exercise and every set should consist of fifteen repetitions.

Another way to cure the tennis elbow is by using the flex bar, it is one of the easiest ways to heal a tennis elbow as this exercise can be done by almost anyone. This exercise offer efficient toning of the extensor muscles. Keep in mind that this exercise should be done under the supervision of a doctor for the first few times as this exercise is very uncommon and has not yet been fully tested.

If these eccentric exercises are done regularly, they will decrease the time of recovery from muscle damage by a very huge margin. All you have to do is to know what you want from the exercise and do it with dedication, the rest will take care of itself.
