EDGAR Online. a leader in providing filing services, data and analysis tools for publically traded companies, announced today that it will formally be releasing its extensible Business Reporting Language dataset, I-Metrix, to the public. The data in the I-Metrix "As- Reported" dataset contains all the information filed in Form 10-Ks and Form 10-Qs in XBRL format by public traded companies easier. The Securities and Exchange Commission was so excited for the promise for easy and accuracy of I-Metrix that the commission itself became one of the first buyers, the company said last week. EDGAR Online senior managing director David Goldstein said that the product could help more people understand and utilize XBRL."The I-Metrix "As Reported" XBRL Dataset is a powerful and easy-to-use resource for anyone interested in exploring the detailed information filed in XBRL with the SECfrom corporate reporting teams to investors and analystswithout requiring an in-depth knowledge of XBRL" said David, Senior Managing Director of Global Product & Market Development of EDGAR Online. The design of the dataset "I-Metrix" hides the complexity of XBRL and makes accessing all information like period, segment ,and footnote data extremely simple without having to search through filed documents. Companies which have already subscribed to EDGAR's I-Metrix platform via the I-Metrix Architect API and the I-Metrix Professional Excel Add-in will have immediate access to the dataset. All publically traded companies will have to tag their financial statements in XBRL starting next June. At present only the largest companies are required to do so. That requirement is nothing but music in the ears for EDGAR Online. XBRL change the entire system and process for how financial reporting in the U.S. is conducted.
