Pen Style e cigarettes probably seem the least familiar at first, but are referred to as pen style because they resemble a ball point pen in size and appearance. Unfortunately, I have never seen one with a shirt pocket clip though I have always thought the clip would come in handy!
This is style is one of the most practical styles because the batteries and nicotine cartridges last long enough to satisfy most smokers. Also, pen style electronic cigarettes don't resemble regular cigarettes so you can smoke them in non-smoking areas very easily without having to fend off too many questions.
The only drawback to the pen style electronic cigarette is that you may have to answer some questions about it in a social situation. Most people react positively to the idea, but if you are hanging out with a few friends you may not feel like you fit in whether they smoke or not.
Mini e Cigs
Mini e cig really means any electronic cigarette smaller than a pen style since the pen style came out first. These days however, there are many mini electronic cigarettes that very closely resemble actual cigarettes in both size and appearance and any electronic cigarette that approaches the size of an actual cigarette, like the blu electronic cigarette for example, is considered a super-mini.
Because the mini e cig is so small both battery and nicotine cartridge life are relatively short. This style requires that you carry several spare batteries and nicotine cartridges if you are going to venture away from your house if even only for few hours.
The more realistic looking Mini electronic cigarettes (white body and orange tip) are accepted in social situations with friends much quicker though. Some people may not even realize you are smoking an electronic cigarette at first unless you bring it up!
The downside to mini electronic cigarettes so realistic in appearance is that it is next to impossible to smoke them in a non-smoking area openly without being approached by someone to be informed that smoking is not allowed in the area.
Fortunately though there are mini e cigarettes that go out of their way to look different with colored bodies and blue or green lighted tips if you simply just prefer the size of a mini e cig and are not trying to blend in.
As a last resort, you can always be discrete about smoking your mini in a non-smoking area because unlike regular cigarettes, electronic cigarettes are virtually odorless and people will NOT notice any smell or complain about it.
Cigar Style e Cigs
These e cigarettes are usually just called electronic cigars because they closely resemble real cigars in size and appearance. Some are even wrapped in a paper like material that feels like a tobacco leaf in your hands. There are many great things about electronic cigars.
First, the batteries and nicotine cartridges are huge and last the longest of all the styles. Also, if you have never been crazy about the flavor of cigar tobacco that's OK because you can find nicotine cartridges for this style in other flavors such as menthol, vanilla or even cola.
The only drawback to electronic cigars is that they are a bit large and the "stock" flavor options can sometimes be limited.
Pipe Style e Cigs
Like the electronic cigar, an electronic pipe closely resembles the real thing.
Battery and cartridge life in an electronic pipe is usually a little longer than a pen style and there are also varied flavor options if you have never been crazy about the taste of pipe tobacco.
The electronic pipe is really all about appearances so if you are going to smoke one of these make sure it suits your style otherwise you will be awkward in social settings.
Which style is Best?
Most people choose a 2 piece mini electronic cigarette if they are new to electronic cigarettes because it is the most convenient, comfortable and easiest style for a first timer. If you have your heart set on one of the other styles though, don't hesitate to just buy it as they are all fairly easy to use once you get used to them and you can always buy another style starter kit in the future!
