In Singapore however the festival is held in remembrance of Qu Yuan who is a well known Chinese poet. During the Dragon Boat Festival which is held annually in Singapore many racing events are held which are fiercely contested. Each team has a total of 22 members of whom 20 are paddlers, a drummer who sets the pace and a steering captain who directs the boat on the correct path.
