The holiday season can be a very stressful time of year and should be avoided at all cost
. Since that is not likely to happen and you know that you are going to have to suffer through it no matter what you do short of fleeing to an uninhabited island, you might as well make the best of it. Here are a few ways to get through the holidays without hanging your self or strangling a loved one.The holidays do not have to put you in a holidaze. The good Lord saw fit to create physicians and physicians prescribe valium for just such an occasion. Go to your local quack or head shrink and let them know about your homicidal tendencies this time of year. You are just about sure to come out of his office with script in hand. At this stage of the game, you are mere minutes away from smiling relaxation and euphoria. If you are smart, you will go to the drive through window at the pharmacy as the moment you approach the counter, a little old lady who has thirteen prescriptions and insists on writing a check... for each individual one, will step in front of you. Spending Christmas in jail is not stress relieving.
There is nothing more relaxing than a cup of hot chocolate and a phone call from Santa. If you have a whole passel of kids clamoring for your attention, a Santa phone call is just the ticket to get them out of your hair. If you promise to send him a check, he might keep your yammering little snot diggers busy for a few hours so that you can find your keys to the liquor cabinet and spice up that cup of cocoa with something a little more relaxing.
There is nothing quite as relaxing as a nice drive in the country during the Christmas holidays. Try to find a nice long country road that is free of all that city traffic and let the miles roll out in front of you. Nine times out of ten, hubby will not come along but the kids will be eager to pile into the car and enjoy the ride. Then you can get rid of hubby and have some alone time when you tell him where you accidentally left the kids. It is probably a good idea to do this in the morning on a nice day so the little rug rats do not have to stand in the cold while they wait for dad to come and fetch them up.
Christmas time is the time of year when you want to do for others. Cooking is a great way to spend some quality time with the family. Since you are such a giving person, why not dump this wonderful tradition squarely in your mother in laws lap. What a wonderful gesture it is when you allow her to take the kids into the kitchen and lock that door as she cooks a huge meal for you. You are such a nice person. Go enjoy a hot bath and do not accidentally drop that kitchen door key down the drain, if you can help it.
During the holidays, it is always a nice gesture to take someone else's burden and carry it for them. These wonderful gestures are especially meaningful if you do it without bragging and taking credit for it. So why not help your loving husband out by eliminating all that burdensome shopping he will have to do for you this year by lifting that Visa card out of his wallet and buying your own presents. Knowing what expensive tastes he has will help you buy all the clothes you will need for the next few years, further unburdening him from birthday and anniversary shopping as well.
