Does My Courier Driver Need Me To Buy Insurance For Them?

Does My Courier Driver Need Me To Buy Insurance For Them?

If you're using a Houston courier service to move a package for you

, you shouldn't need to worry about buying any insurance yourself for them. The only time that you typically are going to have to purchase insurance for someone delivering your packages is if you're using someone within your own company to make deliveries rather than outsourcing that task to a courier company. In order to even be in business, courier companies are going to need to maintain certain types of insurance on their vehicles and for their employees.

The first type of insurance that every courier company is going to have is vehicle insurance. In every state, the amount and types of insurance which are available on business vehicles are different. Most courier companies though are going to maintain the maximum amount of coverage they can, with every additional insurance type available usually on the policy. This is because their vehicles are on the road so often, and represent so much of their investment into their company that they need to make sure that they are well protected.

Courier companies also have courier insurance. This is a different type of policy which is really only available within this specialized industry. This type of insurance is essentially a collection of policy types which are created to insure the goods that the courier is carrying separately from the insurance that they already have on their vehicles and on their drivers.

This type of policy is going to insure your goods in the event that the courier loses them; they become stolen, or are damaged somehow. This type of coverage is very comprehensive, and generally includes most of the things which might go wrong with a courier shipment. Most types of damage will be insured against, such as dropping or other courier negligence, damage due to weather, damage that occurs in a vehicle collision or damage which occurs as a result of fire or smoke.

There is one case though where you may need to spend some extra money on insurance for your courier company. This is going to happen when you're shipping goods which are worth a great deal of money. If whatever you're shipping is worth more than whatever the maximum declared value is for your courier's insurance, you may need to buy additional coverage to make sure that you're completely insured for the full value of your cargo.
