Do You Need Insurance For You Car?

Do You Need Insurance For You Car?

Teenagers have a negative effect on your car insurance rates once they get their license to drive

. The reason for this is simple. Statistically speaking, teenagers not as a group very good drivers. At least not at first.

This is not an arbitrary decision by the insurance companies to punish teenage drivers. Insurance rates are based on level of risk that the insurance company will need to pay for one or more incidents during the term of the policy. With auto insurance, people with a past history of safe driving generally get lower rates than someone with a history of accidents. With teen drivers, there is no history to look to when assessing the risk, so insurance companies must look to the statistics covering the overall teenage population. And those statistics say that your teenage driver is a higher risk than most other population groups applying for the same level of coverage.

Practice and simulation are key elements in successful drivers training. Let your teen learn basic operating skills in an open lot where there is little risk of damage. Set up simulated traffic situations and let you teen practice the appropriate way to turn, back up, and avoid traffic hazards.

Make sure that your teen gets all the proper instruction. Even if your school teaches driver's ed, supplemental private sector courses can help train your teen and can count in your favor when your insurance company sets your new rates.Simulators allow your teen to experience, at least theoretically, traffic problems and hazards that they are not likely to encounter in their on road practice sessions. It has been demonstrated that the skills acquired on a simulator will help your teen react correctly when encountering a similar situation in real life.

Logging time on a driving simulator can also lower your rates. It has been shown that time on a driving simulator can help prepare a new driver for traffic situations that are not usually encountered during normal practice. Things like being cut off on the road or encountering a pedestrian darting into traffic. Man companies recognize that this simulated practice will better equip the new driver to avoid these serious (and expensive) traffic situations.
