Do You Just Eat Shakes And Bars On Medifast? Can You

?

I often hear from people who are very partial to the Medifast shakes and bars and want to know if it's acceptable to make up their daily menu using only these foods. Also, I sometimes hear from people who want to try replacing a few of their meals or snacks with the bars and shakes while resuming their normal eating for the rest of the day. And finally, I sometimes hear from people who assume that Medifast is only made up of the bars and shakes. They assume that these two products are their only options. I will try to address all of these concerns in the following article.

The Medifast Bars And Shakes Are One Of Many Available Food Items. (And One Type Of The Bars Is Somewhat Limited:) I understand why people like these two products. They are filling, tasty and convenient. But it's important to understand that one of these products is limited. The company advises that you eat only one maintenance bar each day. These meals are in the green wrapper and they contain a higher amount of calories, carbs, and sugars. For this reason, it's fine to have one, but you should stop there.

The crunch bars are different though. These are the meals in the yellow wrapper and they do not limit these. So theoretically, if you're following the 5 plus 1 plan, you could have five of these and then your main lean and green meal. Or, you could combine these with the shakes.

However, in my opinion, you might get bored with this rotation. Admittedly, there are many flavor options that you could rotate. And, these are probably the two most popular foods on the menu. Admittedly, most people enjoy them. But, there are so many other options as well. Examples are brownies, pudding, eggs, soups, chili, fruit drinks, and cappuccinos. All of the foods have roughly the same amount of calories, carbs, and proteins so they are all interchangeable (with the exception of the maintenance meals that I already discussed.)

Combining The Medifast Shakes And Bars With Your Regular Meals: Sometimes people ask me if they can buy some of the products individually and then just replace one (or a few) of their daily meals with the diet meals while resuming their regular eating throughout the day. The company most definitely sells all of the items individually. So, there is nothing to stop you from trying this. However, in my opinion, you might not get the results that you were hoping for. The reason for this is that Medifast is effective partly because it is able to get your body in ketosis (or in fat burning mode.)

Some of the things that contribute to this are taking in a low number of calories and carbs while taking in a high amount of protein. It's also important to eat small, regular meals. (The Medifast 5 plus 1 plan has you eating six times per day.) If you were only on this diet part time and then made choices that weren't optimal for your other meals, you may have a hard time getting in ketosis and in seeing the results that you want. Of course, taking in less calories and carbs for even a few meals is better than nothing. But it doesn't make all that much sense to me to make only a partial effort when you could take it just a little bit further and might obtain much more favorable results that you may be much happier with.

So yes, if you're using the bars with the yellow wrapper (the crunch,) then you could theoretically only use these with the shakes (as neither or restricted.) But, I'm not sure why you would want to do this when there are so many other equally effective (and tasty) products that you can obtain from the same place. This is an individual decision though. The only thing that you would need to steer clear of is consuming more than one maintenance product per day.
