Diaper Rash Treatment

All babies suffer from diaper rash every now and then

. This is perfectly normal as your baby's skin is so delicate and sensitive. The chemicals of urine and stools affect your baby's soft skin causing rash to occur especially if the diaper is not changed frequently and immediately after the child would have soiled the diaper. Sometimes babies get affected from severe diaper rash.

Sores can actually develop in the folds due to wetness and soil accumulating there. I see taking care of these areas as a VERY important part of baby care. If let go, these areas can become very sore and bleed. It could even lead to an infection. Never let that happen to your sweet baby! If I notice that there is some redness in these areas, usually just taking extra care to get them dry will be enough for the skin to heal, but with my more sensitive baby I would use a non-petroleum jelly, or an over the counter natural butt paste or ointment. Many of my friends swear by Boudreaux's Butt Paste. You may have to experiment to see what works best for your baby.

Another way to get rid of diaper rash is to change the babies diapers more frequently. This is caused by the rubbing of the diaper on wet skin. A babies urine is also highly acidic, so this also helps in the cause of a rash. When you change your babies diaper more often you remove the moisture and acid. This stops the rash and even helps prevent it.

If a child gets thrush (oral yeast infection), it can spread into the little one's digestive tract, then into the stool. The stool ends up in the diaper eventually. It's not hard to understand now how infants can get a toddler yeast infection in the diaper area.Just like preventing a diaper rash, change the soiled diapers as soon as possible. Clean and dry is crucial when practicing good hygiene.

There are different brands of baby wipes that you will find on the shelves today that contain moisturizers which help alleviate the damage that is done when your baby has a bad diaper rash. You should choose the one that works the best on your baby - preferably ones that are all natural and free of harmful chemicals. This may require a bit of experimenting with different brands. Always look for products which say all natural.

Other mothers swear by using cornstarch on your baby's bottom to absorb the baby's wetness, sometimes being used after spraying vinegar over the area and allowing it to dry. Still others prefer to use anti-inflammatory lotions such as Neosporin and Lotramin AF to help with the swelling and pain. Many pediatricians recommend using chlorine-free diapers to reduce the chance of a rash.

Seborrheic dermatitis is sort of like cradle cap in the diaper area. It is similarly scaly and greasy and may be more pronounced in the folds of the skin. Yeast is the most common infectious cause of diaper rash. The affected areas are bumpy and very red with distinct borders and lesions in more severe cases. This type of dermatitis can occur after an illness is treated with antibiotics, which kill the good bacteria that normally keeps the body's naturally occurring yeast in check. Repeated or stubborn diaper rash caused by yeast infections may require medical attention since the condition will not go away with standard treatments.
