Every city has its own take on fun - and The D is no exception

. Throughout the year, thousands of events are held in Detroit, from car shows, museum exhibits, live music, food festivals and more. And the summer is when Detroit really heats up with an amazing list of events and festivals.

Get ready for a hot concert and live-performance season in metro Detroit with headliners such as Kid Rock at DTE Energy Music Theatre (Aug. 13-15), Jay-Z and Eminem at Comerica Park (Sept. 2), and The Black Keys at the Fillmore Detroit (Aug. 14). Whether you're looking for dance, house, electronic, R & B, blues, pop or rock 'n roll, Detroit's music scene has the beat.

Detroit is known for putting the world on wheels and as such, Autopalooza celebrates Southeast Michigan's automotive heritage throughout a series of major car cruises, races, and shows throughout the year.

If that's not enough, consider visiting one of the many tourist attractions in metro Detroit. Witness American history at The Henry Ford, stroll the halls of the world-renowned Detroit Institute of Arts or explore African-American culture at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History. Learn about automobile history at the Walter P. There are many things to see and do this summer in metro Detroit - plan what to do now to fully enjoy your visit. Here are a few month-by-month picks of events, activities and festivals to satisfy every craving for fun in The D.

JULY

The 4th annual Stars & Stripes Festival comes to downtown Mount Clemens, July 2-5. World-class recording artists will perform each night, as well as the hottest regional and local acts on three different stages. This free festival encompasses music styles from rock, R&B, jazz and country.

Detroit ABPA Gold Cup Hydroplane Races offer high-speed thrills, July 9-11. Come watch as the racers make rooster tails and they navigate the Detroit River with remarkable finesse.

Through music and dance, world-renowned performers come to The D to celebrate diversity. The 2010 Concert of Colors headliners include Detroit's own Don Was, R & B musician Mavis Staples, Arabic performer Simon Shaheen, and Bill Miller, a Grammy-award winning Native American folk artist held July 17-18 at the Max M. Fisher Music Center in Detroit's Midtown.

The nation's largest Arab and Chaldean Festival takes place in The D. Be immersed in Arab and Chaldean culture by enjoying the music, art, fashion and more at downtown Detroit's Hart Plaza, July 24-25.

Concours d'Elegance of America is a must-see event for those who appreciate cars and motorcycles from around the world. On July 25, vintage and classic car owners bring their vehicles to Meadow Brook Hall to compete for the event's prestigious trophies and awards.

AUGUST

On Aug. 7-8, don't forget your shades when looking to the sky at Thunder Over Michigan. Here you'll see the U.S. Navy F-18 Super Hornet Demo Team thunder overhead with their breathtaking moves.

The 2010 Bassmaster Northern Open takes place on the Detroit River Aug. 19-21.

This will be the first professional level tournament that BASS has ever held on these waters, and anglers will be hooked on fishing in The D after this event.

The 16th annual Woodward Dream Cruise idles into the Motor City Aug. 21. The Cruise is the world's largest one-day celebration of classic car culture and attracts more than 1 million visitors, spans 16 miles through nine communities and features more than 40,000 muscle cars, street rods, custom, collector and special interest vehicles.

SEPTEMBER

Celebrate luscious local fruit at the Michigan Peach Festival of Romeo, Sept. 3-5, featuring an arts and crafts show, parade and family activities.

Jazz enthusiasts from all over the country will fill several city blocks in downtown Detroit, from Hart Plaza to Campus Martius Park, for the 31st Annual Detroit International Jazz Festival themed "Flame Keepers- carrying the torch for modern jazz." Ford Arts, Beats & Eats will take place on Sept. 3-6, in Downtown Royal Oak with more than 200 performances on ten stages. The festival will also include a highly ranked Juried Fine Arts Show, local restaurants with some of the finest cuisine in metro Detroit and international, regional and local attractions.

The DIY Street Fair is a free 2-day, 3-night event, Sept. 17-19, in Ferndale where local artists, crafters, businesses, groups and organizations, musicians, restaurants, brewers and others who live and work with a do-it-yourself ethic converge for one big celebration. The event showcases the immense creative energy, independent spirit and innovative talent that can be found throughout the area.

These festivals and events, and many others are taking place throughout metro Detroit, so visitors of all ages and interests will have no problem finding something to celebrate all summer long.
