. You can increase your traffic if you take the time to make certain your store has the holiday spirit for each of the holidays. While back-to-school can be one theme, fall, school sports and autumn harvest can also create an inviting display. Of course, Halloween comes quickly and should have special decorations, too. While it might not seem necessary, it is. Everyone likes to visit a store that appears new and exciting and by changing decor, your store will always remain new and fresh faced, no matter how long you've been in business.You don't have to do all the work yourself. Many vendors have signage you can use for windows and overhead in the store. Window displays can show the latest items for the season, or you can have your windows painted by a professional as part of your holiday decoration. An attractive display or window design isn't a cost item if it brings in more customers.
Inside the store, you should also reflect the seasonal celebration. Use the ceiling for balloons and other decorations for the holiday. Bigger decorations that take up valuable floor space can go in the window display. There's nothing more appealing than a full sized zombie holding the latest item geared to Halloween. You can decorate the end caps to draw attention to special holiday items.
In the spirit of decorating, if you're staff is willing, consider costumes. Of course, on Halloween, the options are open and anything goes, but for other holidays, you should consider more traditional costumes or caps. A Santa hat on each employee, elf caps or reindeer antlers will make quite a hit with your regulars. Consider adding music, Christmas bells, a ghoulish laugh - for Halloween, of course - or the local school song during football season, as part of your decorating scheme to tantalize every one of your customers' senses.
Cover your counter area with last minute impulse items perfect for the season. A Thanksgiving serving tray, Christmas stocking stuffers or a skeleton keychain will sell faster if the customers see them while they wait in line.
Don't forget to give New Year's its own special decorations. Many times, New Year's is lost in the Christmas shuffle. As soon as you sell your last Christmas item and close the doors, or before you reopen, take down the Christmas decorations and focus on New Year's Eve celebrations. Dollar stores contain many of the items customers require for their New Year's Eve parties and you need to tell them you have them all. Stock your shelves with streamers, paper plates, plastic champagne glasses, party hats and New Year's decorations. Use some of them in the window display to whet the appetite of passing shoppers. You'll increase your year-end sales when you don't neglect any holidays, especially New Year's Eve.
