Daughtry Tickets - Daughtry Makes Awards Show Stops On Tour
Although currently on tour in support of sophomore effort Leave This Town
, Chris Daughtry and his namesake band are making time to perform at various awards shows this fall. On November 11, Daughtry took time out from touring to perform "Tennessee Line," off Leave This Town, with Vince Gill for the first time at the CMA Awards.Hosted by Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley, the 43rd annual CMAs also featured performances by Entertainer of the Year winner Taylor Swift, Darius Rucker, Miranda Lambert, Tim McGraw, Keith Urban, Brooks and Dunn (with ZZ Top), Jamey Johnson (with Kid Rock) and the co-hosts. Daughtry is set to take the stage at another awards show, the American Music Awards, on November 22 along with fellow American Idol alumni Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Adam Lambert.
After playing a string of summer club dates in support of Leave This Town, Daughtry embarked on a new batch of dates on October 19. Daughtry will remain on the road through December 20, when the band caps off its North American arena tour in Evansville, Indiana. Chris Daughtry previously told Billboard.com that fans can expect quite a show due to the large scale of the tour saying, "It's the first time where we actually get to use some big production so maybe some pyro, who knows." Leave This Town arrived in mid-July and debuted at the coveted No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart, and it remained among the Top 10 for quite awhile thereafter. The follow-up to Daughtry's quadruple-platinum 2006 debut, Leave This Town certainly didn't fall prey to the sophomore slump! During its first week of release, Leave This Town outsold the late pop icon Michael Jackson, but Chris Daughtry remained humble, telling Billboard online, "I'm just very proud and honored to be at the top of the charts."
Although former Rock Star-INXZ reject Chris Daughtry was voted off American Idol after making it into the final four, the bald-headed crooner nonetheless found favor with the American audience. After turning down a spot in Fuel (he performed a rendition of their song "Hemorrhage (In My Hands)" on Idol), Daughtry signed a record contract with Idol's 19 Entertainment and RCA in 2006 and formed his self-titled band with guitarist Jeremy Brady (who was later replaced by Brian Craddock), guitarist Josh Steely, bassist Josh Paul, and drummer Joey Branes.
The band found instant success with their single "It's Not Over" in 2007, and the group's self-titled debut subsequently eclipsed the success of American Idol rivals Katherine McPhee and Taylor Hicks by garnering four Grammy nominations in 2008. If the current success of Daughtry's sophomore album is any indication, it looks like the band may be taking another trip to the Grammys this year, although Chris Daughtry remains humble about the possibility. The band's namesake told The Weekender while on tour, "All that stuff if great, but more than anything, I guess we want to see the record carry us the next two years like the first one did."
