Garden flats in the city always command higher prices than their first floor counterparts and there is good reason for this
. A garden presents a natural space in which to relax, entertain or get your hands dirty. No matter what the size of your outside space, you can create a place in which to enjoy the outdoors.Courtyard, walled gardens present an ideal opportunity for an easy maintenance container garden. Laying gravel and or flagstones creates a functional space in which to place garden patio sets, pots and ornaments. If you like to entertain, leave a corner plot for a BBQ to host some balmy summer parties and show off your culinary skills. Lights - either solar or decorative chains can also prove a useful and stylish draw for extending your home into your garden. Container gardens don't have to be limited to flowers and shrubs, you can create herb pots for when you need some added seasoning in your well-crafted dishes.
Even balconies can provide a useful space for relaxation. Using some window boxes, lanterns and drapes can add a Moroccan hideaway theme to any balcony, creating a tranquil evening space that requires little maintenance. Ecologist magazine even suggests planting vegetables in balcony window boxes, with even the smallest of spaces having a window sill for salad plants.
Plant maintenance in both styles of garden is vital. Don't forget to water your plants on a regular basis, asking a friend or member of the family to step in if your on holiday. Whilst they are not as demanding as pets, plants still require a bit of TLC. When your plants grow bigger, you may also need to re-pot them so keep an eye on the roots.
A small amount of watering and care is no price to pay for a space away from the demands of the city. With some small touches, you can feel like you're in the middle of the English countryside.
