The preteen years can be tough enough to handle without having to worry about how to give your growing girl the perfect room
. If you consider the fact that she will be much more opinion oriented than in previous years, but will probably not keep any style for all that long, you will be on the right track. Let her lead the design with her individual style choices, and help her create a space that grounds her while still providing all the artistic inspiration she craves.Keep Furnishings Uncomplicated and Uncluttered:
You do not need a ton of different furnishings in a preteens room; in fact the more basic you can keep it the better. This is not the time to go crazy with zany offshoot pieces that may go out of style quickly and cause you to have to purchase a whole new set of furniture in a couple of years. Keep it simple with a bed, night stand, armoire, and possibly a bookshelf or vanity if space allows.

If your girl has a special interest or hobby, give her a special area to show it off as well as any personal goals or successes she has experienced. If she is an athlete, use any trophies or ribbons she has won and display them prominently; if she is into art, frame a personal piece she has created and call attention to it. Either way, let her individuality take center stage, so that her room becomes a true reflection of who she is and provides much needed refuge from the outside world.
