Creating A Beautiful Lawn

Creating A Beautiful Lawn

Sometimes it can seem like you are the only one on the block that is incapable of keeping a healthy

, green, thriving lawn. Every time that you drive down the street you cannot help but glance in jealousy at your neighbors perfectly manicured lawns.

There are several easy, non-time consuming, and simple things that you can do to improve the look of your lawn. These things can also help your lawn to live longer without major renovation.

The first thing that you should do is sprinkle lawn fertilizer over your yard in the spring, summer, and autumn. Remember that your lawn is made up of plants and that they need their special feeding the same as any rose or other flower bed.

A lawn fertilizer should contain nitrogen, phosphates, and potash. These ingredients are vital nutrients for grass.

Sprinkling the fertilizer once in the spring, summer, and autumn may not be enough. If the grass is looking rather faded, try giving it another dose of nutrients.

The second thing you may want to do is invest in watering system that can time itself. This relieves you of the responsibility of being home long enough to water the yard.

Everyone simply does not have time water their lawn. The rain in the beginning or spring and late fall may be enough water during those times, but the lawn will need water throughout summer as well.

The best indication that your lawn needs water is the color of the grass. If it begins to turn brown, it needs more water.

The best time to water the lawn is during the coolest part of the day, such as early in the morning or late at night. This allows the water to sink into the ground for the use of the plants instead of evaporating away.

Rotary sprinklers are also suggested for best lawn coverage. The best schedule for a lawn to be watered is thoroughly once a week unless it is very hot.

This form of watering encourages root growth. Be careful not to overwater the grass however, as over watering can be much worse for the grass than under watering.

A well hydrated lawn can resist the forces of everyday trampling and smashing that a lawn endures. Meanwhile, a dehydrated lawn will struggle to survive the stampede.

The best way to control the infestation of weeds is to first establish a good lawn with either seed of turn. Then, make sure that you mow the lawn consistently.

This will keep down weeds such as dandelions which grow, bloom, and spread their seeds. However, if they are consistently mowed before they can bloom they will never be able to spread.

In addition, mowing can help your lawn look well cared for and attractive. Mowing is an activity that can improve your health and should be done from March until October.

The blades should be sharp and the setting should not be too low. The grass should also be dry when you mow so that the mower does not become clogged with damp grass cuttings.

For the best results mowing should be done in one direction at a consistent pace. New grass should not be mowed until it is at least two or three inches tall.

If mowing is done too soon, the mower with simply kill the baby grass. This would effectively defeat your purposes.

Winter is a dangerous time for a lawn as it can be covered with all kinds of things from leaves, to dirt and sticks. Rake up this debris and sticks so that your lawn can still receive as much sun as possible.

If your lawn has many shady sections, think about trimming back bushes or trees to provide more sun to the lawn. In addition, leave the grass in the shade slightly longer to improve the look of your lawn.

Earthworms are also great for the health of the lawn. The organic fertilizer previously mentioned will aid in attracting these natural doctors to your grass.

The green lawn will be worth the effort and time spent to care for it. A well cared for lawn not only brings satisfaction to the care provider, but adds to the reputation of the care provider.
