Cosmetic Dentistry: You Deserve a Beautiful Smile

Do your misaligned teeth make you self-conscious

? Do you stop yourself from smiling in public because of what others will think when they see your crooked or discolored teeth? If so, you're not alone!

Many people just like you suffer from tooth problems that reduce or even completely destroy their self confidence. Fortunately, due to advances in dentistry, there is a solution.

Imagine for a moment how different your life would be if you had a mouthful of pearly white teeth that you were proud to show off! Would you smile more? Would you have more confidence at work, in your community or with your spouse or lover?

Of course you would. And because of cosmetic dentistry, it's now possible to get the smile you've always dreamed of in just a matter of a few hours

What Is Cosmetic Dentistry?

Cosmetic dentistry is any dental procedure that improves or enhances the appearance of a person's teeth. It is a comprehensive approach to dental care that combines the science of dentistry with the art and style of personal appearance.

Why Would Someone Have A Cosmetic Dental Procedure?

The reasons a person would choose to have a cosmetic dental procedure are as varied as the individuals who choose them!

Some people choose to see a cosmetic dentist because they want to look younger, while others want to straighten their teeth. Some people want to whiten their teeth due to discoloration from coffee drinking or smoking. Others simply want to enhance their looks for personal or professional reasons.

Regardless of the specific reason someone might choose cosmetic dentistry there are a few specific dental procedures that people turn to again and again.

Cosmetic Dentistry Procedures

Teeth Whitening

Whitening is a cosmetic dental procedure that can help reduce or eliminate tooth stains and discoloration that can be caused by drinking tea, coffee or red wine, or from smoking cigarettes.

There are essentially two options when it comes to tooth whitening: in-home whitening treatments, which involve a custom-fitted dental tray, lined with a bleaching gel that the patient wears for one- to two-hours per day; and chairside or in-office tooth whitening where the patient is treated at the dentist office who places a gel directly onto the discolored teeth and then exposes it to a light that oxidizes the stains or discolorations.

With the chairside method, significant whitening can be achieved in as little as one hour

Invisalign

Probably the most common form of cosmetic dentistry is the use of braces. Children, teens and adults of all ages wear dental braces to help straighten misaligned teeth.

However, traditional metal bands, brackets and wires make many patients uncomfortable so dental patients are increasingly turning to Invisalign for their teeth straightening needs.

Invisialign's removable aligners are worn without interrupting your regular daily activities and are removed only to eat and brush/floss. This virtually invisible option helps to straighten your teeth and treat your specific orthodontic issues.

Porcelain Veneers

When a tooth has been chipped due to an impact or injury, veneers are often used to restore the original tooth to its original shape using a veneer made of porcelain.

Although they can be quite an expensive option, using porcelain veneers to correct a chipped tooth restores the look of the tooth without having to remove the original.

Dental Implants

The final option for people who have suffered severely damaged or injured teeth is the use of dental implants. Dental implants are artificial teeth that resemble natural teeth both in look and functionality.

With dental implants, the original tooth (or teeth) must be removed before being replaced.

The choice to see a cosmetic dentist to have one or more of these cosmetic dental procedures done is made for very personal reasons. Fortunately, with the advances in technology and research, new cosmetic dental procedures and less expensive options are continually being developed.
