Christmas Shopping In Birmingham

Due to its easy access by all forms of travel, Christmas shopping in Birmingham has to be the place to consider, this assumes of course that you have yet to venture into this annual pilgrimage.

Birmingham offers shopping facilities second to none and in the current economical climate, at prices to suit all pockets.

For the car travellers there are numerous car parking facilities, with some of the major stores providing their own. There are also numerous privately owned indoor and outdoor parking centres. The choice of parking includes multi storey, street and long and short stay parking. It is difficult to provide car parking prices as they do vary and depend very much on the period of parking required. Further information can be obtained on the Birmingham City Council web site. However, some price information has been provided lower.Christmas Shopping In Birmingham

For those travelling by train, Birmingham's three major rail stations, New Street, Snow Hill and Moor Street are all within easy walking distance of the city centre.

During the run up to Christmas, Birmingham offers, in and around Victoria Square, the authentic Frankfurt Christmas Market which has become a huge favourite for both residents and visitors to the city, with some travelling from as far afield as Europe. The market is combined with the local traders Christmas Craft Fair and together they offer some 180 stalls to browse and enjoy. It opens daily from 10.00am - 9.0pm and runs from the 18 November to 23 December. This combined offering is probably one of the most popular Christmas markets in the UK.

Browsing the picturesque stalls you will find traditional handcrafted gifts in abundance, including jewellery, wooden toys, dolls and candles. If you get peckish you will find stalls offering German beers, traditional German sausages, meats, sweets, marzipans, pastries, breads and the more UK traditional chips, hot dogs, burgers, etc.

You will experience a truly continental atmosphere conjured by the lights, sounds and smells of this spectacle.

The event provides disabled access and toilet facilities with live music every lunchtime and evening from a traditional bandstand.

For those looking for the more expensive jewellery gifts then Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter has to be the place to visit. There are some one hundred specialist retailers offering choices of jewellery beyond belief. Also within the Quarter there are both restaurants and bars for those requiring a break from their Christmas adventure.

Car parking facilities around the Jewellery Quarter are available Monday - Saturday at charges of 50p for one hour, 1.00 for two, 1.60 for three, 2.00 for four and 3.00 for six. Words of warning, however, always remember that the longer you stay the more you will probably spend. The hours of shop opening times within the Quarter are varied.

Birmingham's Bullring also offers some 160 of the most imaginable and desirable shops for your exploration, including the large Selfridges and Debenhams stores. There is also an abundance of restaurants offering a varied choice. The Bullring opening times are Monday - Friday 9.30am 8.00pm (until 10.00pm from December 8th), Saturday 9.00am 8.00pm and Sunday 11.00am 5.00pm. The Bullring also has three dedicated car parks offering spaces for some three thousand vehicles.

For the Christmas bargain hunters amongst us the Bullring's open and indoor market are also places to visit.

For standalone designer stores The Mailbox shopping arcade is the place to be as it features the largest collection of such stores outside London and includes such brands as Emporio Armani, Harvey Nichols, Hugo Boss, DKNY and Polo Ralph Lauren. There are also a variety of lifestyle stores alongside the designer stores. Again, for the peckish, there are restaurants and caf bars on offer. The Mailbox has its own car parking facility with some 670 places, including disabled. Prices range from 2.50 for one hour to 7.00 for four. Opening times are currently Monday Saturday 10.00am - 7.00pm and 11.00am 5.00pm Sunday.

Birmingham also offers department stores like Marks & Spencer, Primark, House of Fraser, Urban Outfitters, Harvey Nicholls, Next, British Home Stores etc.

There are also shopping centres like The Palisades, Fort Focus, and Pavilion Central etc. to wander around.

A linked NCP car park serves The Palisades, whose opening times are currently Monday 11.00am 5.00pm, Tuesday - Saturday 9.30am 6.00pm and Sunday 11.00am 5.00pm.

Fort Focus offers free parking for some 2000 vehicles and opening times of Monday - Friday 9.30am - 8.00pm with Thursday till 9.00pm, Saturday 9.00am 7.00pm and Sunday 11.00am 5.00pm.Christmas Shopping In Birmingham
