Christian Activities for Kids
Not all is bad, and not all is negative. But, the truth remains that kids are constantly bombarded with all sorts of negative information and images. It can be very difficult to find positivity in even the most innocent of environments. So, finding things to do with kids that nurture the good in them can be quite challenging. The key to effective Christian activities for kids, is to focus on specific aspects of a Christ-like personality and planning activities around them. Here are some examples.
SERVE
Nothing says Christ like a servant's heart. So, in the spirit of service, have your kids mention some specific needs they've noticed within the community that they'd like to help fill. For example, they might know of an elderly person who is always alone, or they might have noticed the neighbors don't have time to mow the lawn. Maybe they know of an area of the community which needs some sprucing up. After they have identified the need, have them play "secret angels." The "game" consists on filling the need without getting caught! They might, for example, write a few notes to the lonely elderly person, and drop them in their mailboxes or mail slots, and simply sign them "Your Secret Angel". You could help them find out if there are any restrictions to starting a community garden in the area thwy identified that needs a bit of love. Then, get them some seeds, tools and soil, and help them get the garden started. Make sure you label everything you plant, so no one will inadvertently remove one of the plants. Then make a sign that identifies the garden as the Secret Angel Garden.
GIVE
This one's really simple and can be a lot of fun. Plan and hold a bake sale. Kids usually enjoy the process of baking. Selling can also be a good way for them to practice their math and their people skills. Once the bake sale is over, identify a ministry, service or charity that accepts donations. Take the kids to personally deliver the profits from the bake sale. Instant lesson in giving!
LOVE
For this activity, you will need to do a bit of planning, scheduling and prep work, but it will be well-worth the effort. Ask your minister if he knows of any orphanages, hospitals, or shelters, which allow children to visit other children. It might come down to a specific child within your church community that is ill, or in need. Have your kids pick a game, toy or book that they'd like to share with the kid in need. Tell them that they may need to give up that toy by the end of the day. Explain how the Lord will supply what they need, and that the joy of knowing they have helped and loved others will be worth much more than the toy. On the scheduled visit time, give your children a chance to love on the needy one(s). When you're ready to leave, ask your kids to give the toy to the needy child as a reminder that they have a new friend.
Christian activities for kids can be challenging. Keep in the Spirit of who Christ is, and the path is made much smoother.
