Knowing when and what to impose as a punishment can be a challenge, and you will need to ensure that you are focused on the positive things at all times. Sometimes natural consequences will help your child to learn, and you will not need to impose any of your own.

A huge majority of children's behavioral problems are caused by parents imposing punishments that are too severe or at the wrong time. Many children will do bad behavior to get your attention, and although you may not realize it by yelling and punishing them, you are giving them exactly what they want.

You need to ensure that although you acknowledge the bad behavior, you must try to ignore it and focus on the good behavior. Children improve if they are rewarded for good behavior.

When you are the parent it is often difficult to know that your child's behavior is good or bad, but in time it will become easier to identify. Your children like to get rewards, and their behavior will improve. They will acknowledge that their bad behavior isn't achieving anything and will strive to be good to receive the rewards.
