Older children may not need the car seat but may need to use a booster seat so that the car seat belts can be strapped properly. Seat belts should not cross the stomach of the child and the diagonal seat belt should never be behind the child when seated. Never try and buckle up two children in one seat.

Some child safety seats come with EPS foam cushioning so that the child can be spared the extra bumps that one gets in the back seat. Others have wide padded wings on the side so that the child can fall asleep comfortably in the car.
