Child Counseling Importance

By definition, counseling is a guidance which could be offered by a social worker, a guidance counselor in school, etc. which aims to help an individual resolve some issues regarding their social adjustments or personal goals. Child counseling is the guidance of a child who needs to resolve some issues. The child counseling could be done in a school guidance office or it could be in a clinicians office if it involves therapeutic help for a traumatized child. Both aim to help the child cope with the problems and build self-confidence to overcome them and to maintain that self-confidence.There can be numerous reasons for child counseling: conflict with peers could be handled in the guidance counselor's room or it could be difficulties at home which may affect the academic performance of the child. The guidance counselor will attempt to identify the reasons behind the problems and would attempt to help the child resolve them. The counselor would be obligated to keep the parents of the child updated of any developments regarding the problem and coping mechanism they could develop. The resolution of the problems is the main reason behind the the guidance in the counseling. But the resolution should not be led by the counselor or the parents; instead it should be reached independently by the child. For this is exactly what 'guidance' means in the guidance counselor, they are there to guide. In many cases the child would be too scared to go through the process of discovery and resolution on their own. A child who cannot have counseling may simply withdraw and keep everything inside, they would deny they have a problem, but they would act out and get aggressive and take out their frustrations on everyone who surrounds them.It takes recognizing the reasons behind the odd behaviour that children with problems which makes a good guidance counselor. The untrained would even label the child as 'problem children' which would not only increase the stress but would also set the negative path which the child would have no other choice but to follow.Children who have problems have a difficulty in coping. They need to identify the whys of their problems and what's and how's in dealing with them. The guidance counselor listens to them, helps them draw out the information from within and point them to the right direction on how to effectively handle the situations. Through the counseling process, the child will learn how to be self-confident so in the future they would know how to cope with more difficulties in the future. If they are not given a chance to cope through the help of child counseling, the child will just get lost in the quagmire of stress and life.
