Check List To File A Claim Insurance For Your Roof

When filing a claim with an insurance company for a roof damage you should be prepared to do some work in your own

. Here is a check list that can help you make the process easier. The process can take some time but by taking the necessary time you are making sure that everything is done properly.

Look for a roofing company.

We recommend you to search for a local roofing company. There are several places you can look for local roofers. For example, the Better Business Bureau, Angie's List, and the Prefer Contractor List. If your receive promotion in your door and they sound appealing, make sure you investigate them online to make sure they local and they are who they said.

Get several proposals.

Schedule three or four contractors to come out and look at the house. Do not make any prompt decision. Wait for all the contractor's proposals and take a close look at what they are offering you, ask questions, and references of previous works. At the same time call your insurance company and tell them you will like to file a claim. Most insurance companies will take your information and then an adjuster will contact you a few day later.

Schedule the contractor and insurance adjuster to come and see the house.

After you receive all the estimates do not choose the very expensive or the inexpensive but the one between. Ask the chosen contractor to meet you and inspector. This way the three of you will be able to revise and see what the damage from the roof was. The adjuster will be able to tell you if the claim is cover by your insurance company. If it is cover, you will receive a check in the mail along with a package of paper describing what was paid for in detail.

Discuss the claim and the estimate with the contractor.

After you receive the claim package ask the contractor to explain and compare his proposal to the one from the adjustor. In the insurance claim package, in the last page there should be the description of all the totals amounts paid. This will include the total claim, depreciation, deductable and the total amount paid to you.

Determine if the check is address to you or the contractor and you.

After the job is completed and you are content with the job, you must determine if the check is payable to you or the contractor. Some insurance will endorse the check payable to you and the contractor as a prevention of fraud. If this is the case, make sure you sing the back of the check and give it to the contractor. If the check is payable to you alone, make sure you deposit the check a few days before paying the contractor to prevent overdraft.

Make sure you receive the warranties, certificate and the final receipt of payment.

After the total amount is paid you should receive the promised warranties and a certificate that estates that the work was completed.
