Celebrity Rehab And Why They Enter Treatment Clinics, Is This Panacea Or Media Attention
Rehab clinics are increasingly popular for celebrities
. Many of them enter rehab for a number of issues, such as, alcohol, drugs, sex, and depression.But why do celebrities choose to enter a rehab and undergo a treatment programme? For most celebrities, they do so only when they have no other option but to either come clean or get clean once the media has picked up on some embarrassing story about them. How many celebrities have we seen enter a rehab clinic for sex addiction because they've either just been or are just about to be exposed by the press and media as having cheated (mostly more than once) on their partner. Recent celebrities such as Mark Owen and Tiger Woods have entered rehab after they were exposed in the media as having cheated on their wife's on a number of occasions over the last few recent years.
Other celebrities such as Lindsay Lohan enter rehab clinics due to partying too hard and stepping on to a downward spiral of too much alcohol and late nights. Often they are pictured falling out of clubs looking worse for wear. It's usually after seeing too many embarrassing photos of themselves in newspapers and magazines looking in such a state (and after being nagged by friends, families and their advisors) that they decide it's time to check into rehab for a break. Of course many of these celebrities come out of rehab full of promise and hope and for some they are able to achieve a lifelong sobriety and a new way of life, but for others, it only takes a few weeks or a few months and they're back to square one again.
Amy Winehouse had a recent stint in rehab for her crack cocaine. Her lifestyle leading up to this and her eventual downfall was well publicised in the media. It was also seen as ironic as she had previously released a chart topping single all about being told she needed to go into rehab but she said, no, no, no! Amy was a prime example of how the media were so obsessed by her bad-girl ways and she was regularly pictured looking ill, skinny and withdrawn. All symptoms of her addiction which was probably added to by the stress of being in the limelight. She also had a tempestuous relationship with her husband, who was also a drug addict. Although he managed to get clean whilst having a spell in prison.
Amy's mum, dad and family were all very concerned for her health and were being portrayed in the press that they wanted her to enter into rehab so that she could sort herself out. Eventually, like many other celebrities, Amy had to concede that this would be the best thing for her. When she came out of rehab, she looked like a different woman. She managed to stay out of trouble for most of the time (although she did have one or incidences of bad behaviour) and for a few months her family were relieve. But she has reportedly been reunited with her husband and her family must be worrying that she'll return to her old ways.
So does celebrity rehab work? Yes it does for most but just because these people are celebrities, doesn't make them any different to you or I deep down and they have their own panacea, demons and issues that they have to deal with just like anyone else. It's what you take from rehab and how you run with it afterwards, one day at a time.
