Celebrate All Year Long In Washington Dc

Celebrate All Year Long In Washington Dc

No matter what time of year you visit Washington D.C.

, there is always something exciting going on. Beginning in January all the way through December you will find plenty of fairs, celebrations and more.

This article will give you an idea of the many events taking place throughout the year so you can learn what events will be taking place while you are in the city. Starting in January D.C. celebrates Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday at the Lincoln Memorial, where Dr. King gave his "I Have a Dream" speech.

Also celebrated in January (and sometimes in February) is Chinese New Year. The nation's capital celebrates this holiday with a parade, firecrackers, dragon dances and more.

The event takes place in Washington's Chinatown. Last event in January to check out is Robert E. Lee's birthday celebration.

The doors of his home are opened for the afternoon where visitors will listen to 19th century music and view displays of the South's military hero. In February another birthday celebration takes place, this time for Abraham Lincoln.

A ceremony and a reading of his Gettysburg Address salute this president at the Lincoln Memorial. March has some unique events including the St. Patrick's Day Parade, the Smithsonian Kite Festival, and the National Cherry Blossom Festival.

Occasionally this event is held in April, depending on when the cherry trees decide to bloom. This time of year is a great time to visit because the blossoms are really beautiful.

April also features an Earth Day Celebration. This event celebrates global awareness with speakers, exhibits and musicians.

A great way to celebrate Easter is by attending the Easter Sunrise Service at the Arlington National Cemetery. Another fun thing for children to do during Easter is the White House Easter Egg Roll.

Each year plenty of families gather on the lawn of the White House for this event, the festivities also include concerts, storytelling and dressed up characters. If you visit during May you might want to celebrate National Train Day at Union Station.

On this day model trains are set up and presentations are given. A few other notable activities during May are the International Children's Festival, the Arlington Cemetery Memorial Day Cemetery, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Day Ceremony, and the National Memorial Day Parade.

June is the month for the DC Jazz Festival, the Caribbean Carnival Extravaganza, and the Safeway National Capital Barbeque Battle. For those who enjoy learning, you may want to visit during Museum Walk Weekend.

This weekend is full of exhibits, music, food and fun. What better place to be during July than our Nation's Capital?

The Fourth of July is especially exciting with a large celebration at the National Mall. The event includes a parade, concerts and fireworks to end the day.

Another large event in July is the Smithsonian Folklife Festival. This cultural fair runs for two weeks on the lawn of the National Mall.

August is the month for the Arlington County Fair. This fair is four days long and includes crafts, food, and exhibits all at the Thomas Jefferson Center.

Moving into September is the Adams Morgan Festival which celebrates multicultural music. Visitors will also be able to try out some international cuisine.

Another unique event during this month is the National Frisbee Championships where top dogs catch discs and perform for judges. A few other fun September events are Rock Creek Park Day, the National Book Festival, and the Farm Fun Festival.

October brings us to the fall season. Why not celebrate by checking out the Apple Harvest Festival or the Pumpkin Festival.

These both take place about an hour from D.C., but are a great way to celebrate the season. Enjoy caramel apples, pies and cobblers or pumpkin pie, apple cider and doughnuts at these events.

November has a few events to check out including the Veterans Day Ceremony, the Waterfowl Festival, and the Bakery Festival. Lastly in December celebrate the holiday season by checking out the Holiday Market, the National Christmas Tree Lighting, or the Christmas Celebration and Services at the Washington National Cathedral.

The last event of the year is First Night Alexandria. On New Year's Eve you can party with live music, dancing, magic and shopping all along the waterfront.

Once the clock hits midnight a beautiful fireworks display is shown. Have a great time in D.C., no matter what time of year you visit!
