Cartridge Toner And The Inkjet Revolution

Cartridge Toner And The Inkjet Revolution

Depending on the type of inkjet printer in question

, an individual can spend between $19 and $50 on ink every time the cartridge runs out. Over time this becomes extremely pricey, particularly if an individual prints glossy photos or a great deal of documents every week. Fortunately, there are a number of resources available for those looking to save some of their hard earned cash.

In the long run, the best way to save money on an inkjet cartridge is to purchase a more high-end inkjet printer. While the initial cost is higher, over the life of the machine an individual will spend less on cartridge costs. Many high-end inkjet printers are now comparable in paper output and quality to laser printers, which use toner instead of inkjet cartridges to operate.

Another way to save money is by purchasing inkjet cartridges through discount stores, online, or in bulk. Often manufacturers bundle the ink in packages of two or more, thus saving the consumer a few extra dollars.

The third way to save funds is by purchasing remanufactured cartridges or refill kits which enable consumers to refill used cartridges themselves. There are pros and cons to using such kits or cartridges. Third party companies claim that refill kits or remanufactured cartridges are as good if not better than the originals and that over the life of the printer a consumer will save money. Companies such as Hewlett-Packard, Epson and Canon claim that their inkjet cartridges are superior to remanufactured versions. Also, using refillable cartridges can void the warranty on certain types of inkjet printers.

However, there is no concrete evidence suggesting that either group is correct, and so it is up to the consumer to decide if remanufactured cartridges are the way to go. And lawsuits between companies, technological advances, and better quality printers are all working together to make cartridge toner and inkjet products more affordable for the average consumer.
