Car Care During Summer Months

Driving during the summer months can do damage to your vehicle and your belongings inside

, especially if you live in an area that experiences high temperatures. Those that make their home in southernmost states know that there are many ways to prevent emergencies and unexpected problems.

Anyone that parks outside during the summer months will need to know a few tips regarding how to keep their vehicle safe and relatively cool. Though it may be impossible to keep inside temperatures of your vehicle cool, you can keep them low enough to prevent injury or damages.

In most states that experience extreme heat during the summer time, it is illegal and a felony to leave a child or pet inside of a vehicle unattended. Even if windows are rolled down, they have a high chance of experiencing stroke or overheating.

If they are left unattended for too long, it can easily become fatal; small children and animals cannot work the doors and get themselves out of the automobile, and they are less likely to make noise or cry as they overheat.Car Care During Summer Months

Make sure that you always have your child or pet with you and that they are not left alone inside a car. It may be best to just leave your animal at home in an air conditioned home, as opposed to taking it with you.

When your vehicle sits in the sun for a long span of time, heat and sunlight come in through the windows and warm the inside temperature. This can warp leather over time and melt objects that are not meant to withstand levels over one hundred degrees.

One of the most important aspects of preparing your transportation for the summer months is to tint the windows. This will block a majority of the rays from the sun and keep the inside cooler.

Many states have somewhat strict laws regarding the level to which one is able to tint their windows, but hotter ones like Arizona tend to be a little more lenient. If the laws where you live are fairly strict, due to safety reasons, but you still want a good deal of sun protection, request the highest legal percentage.

If you are unable to purchase window tinting due to your budget, you can also get protection and cooling from shades. These are usually reflective materials that are placed in your front windshield to direct warmth away and keep the sun from shining in.

They are made out of a number of different materials, so you will need to decide which the best is for you and which will last the longest. Not only will this keep the inside of your vehicle more comfortable for when you return, but it will also preserve your dashboard and steering wheel.

These tend to fade and crack if you expose them to the rays of the sun over an extended period of time. Your steering wheel will be much easier to maneuver and much more comfortable to your hands if you use windshield shades; otherwise, you run the risk of burning your palms.

If you have errands to run at different locations, you may find it best to park in the shade. Though it may seem like a pain to park further away from your destination just so that you can be underneath a tree, this really will make all the difference when it comes to your comfort.Car Care During Summer Months

Those that are worried about debris or bird droppings dirtying their exterior can also simply park in the opposite direction of the sunlight. In climates that are hot and dry, vehicles may need servicing more frequently.

Check your oil levels frequently, and take it in to the shop at least at the beginning and end of the summer to make sure that there have been no problems that developed. It may also be a good idea to keep items inside that will help your comfort, like water bottles, insulating bags to keep groceries cold, both an emergency and first aid kit, a steering wheel cover, and snacks.

It is always a good idea to be prepared for whatever situation you find yourself in, and the summer heat is no different. Prep your automobile during the spring time and you should stay safe all season long.
