Car Buying - Are You Better To Buy Online Or Offline?

Car Buying - Are You Better To Buy Online Or Offline?

If you were looking to buy a car 15 years ago

, you had no option but to buy offline. The internet had been invented and had started to be used by various organisations, but it was still very much in its infancy and there were no major opportunities to buy a car online.

Today, however, you're given such a wide variety of options that it's difficult to know where to start.

Auctions, classified adverts, dedicated forums, specialist blogs - these 4 areas alone are enough for most people to find the car that they're looking for.

Now although the internet has without doubt helped the car buying process, as it instantly gives the buyer the opportunity to look at several other markets, there are some significant differences, positives and negatives between buying a car online and offline, leading some people to have their own views about which is better.

In one respect, buying a car offline is considerably better than buying online for the simple fact that you get to see and test drive the car before you hand over your hard earned cash.

Yes, you might be able to see a full information sheet with 360 degree images of every car in Dodge dealers online, as well as being able to make a purchase there and then and have the car delivered to you, but this doesn't compare to actually entering Dodge dealers offline and trying out the car yourself.

Whilst the car may look fantastic, fits your specification and be within your budget, it might be uncomfortable to drive or be displeasing aesthetically when looking at it in real life, which is where buying offline has the distinct advantage.

However, this is not to say the internet does not have its benefits and in some instances, it can provide a better car buying process.

For instance, imagine you had seen a car offline that you liked but couldn't agree on a price with the car salesperson. Whereas originally you would have to walk away and find another dealer and likely another car, the internet allows you to search- on that same day - to see whether that exact same car is for sale nearby.

And even if it wasn't available nearby, as you've already tried and tested it and know you like it, as long as you can trust the seller, you could purchase the car online.

Furthermore, you're likely to get a better deal online than you are offline, as many internet dealers don't have any of the overheads that offline outlets do, such as salaries or property costs and they can therefore show this lack of outgoings in reduced vehicle costs.

Everyone has their own opinions on whether car buying is better online or offline. Some will always prefer the traditional way, whilst others will enjoy the ability to purchase a car without leaving their home and as there's no real right or wrong answer, the decision of whether you purchase your next car online or offline is purely down to you.
