Canadian Travel Expert Shares His Tips On Destination Weddings In The Caribbean

, travel expert Loren Christie shared his tips on getting married abroad in the Caribbean, highlighting the island of Anguilla in particular for its idyllic setting and exclusive boutique hotels, with no cookie-cutter all-inclusive resorts and unique individuality and charm.Talking about why destination weddings were so ideal and popular among couples, Loren said: Like everybody else, its a getaway! When you look at the backdrop of where youre going to be getting married, you can actually see it. Its very beautiful, its clean, clear lines, waters, and its just going to be breathtakingly nice and simple.
Adding to that, Christie continued: Most people just get away cause they dont wanna have the hassle of dealing with big city weddings. Or they just wanna get away because of the fact that youre not going to have much people around. They can limit the amount of people attending your weddingjust to relax and get away from everybody, basically.
Speaking about the Caribbean island of Anguilla more specifically, Loren described its romantic beach settings with as many as 33 secluded powdery white sand beaches and a unique allure with no mass tourism, an amazing culinary scene and a soothing atmosphere thats been little commercialised over the years and has managed to avoid the over-development of resorts for tourism purposes.
In a way, the island feels as if it has not been touched for over 30 years but still has some ultra-exclusive top luxury resorts offering world class service. And for those who want to tie the knot here, the whole affair is very easy to arrange. Couples only need to reside in the island for two days prior to the wedding and pay the $284 of the wedding license and theyre set! But even more unique is the fact that for those who are after religious destination weddings in churches instead of the typical barefoot beach ceremony, Anguilla is actually one of the few islands where foreigners can get married in a local proof. All they need to do is provide proof of citizenship of their resident country, passport or original birth certificate with a photo identification document such as drivers license.
On a last note he gave some general tips and advice for brides and grooms planning weddings abroad in the Caribbean:
Have a budget and stick to it. The cost of a destination wedding can vary widely. For example, consider the time of year youre planning. That will help with accommodation rates (especially if bringing a group down). Also, if you love flowers, choose flowers that are in season. It will help with expense.
Ask if there are any special regulations you should be aware of. Some destinations require a blood test, but most places in the Caribbean dont.
Do be prepared for bathing suit clad onlookers!
Tell people not to bring gifts, you dont want to be bringing your toaster home on the plane.
As with any trip make sure to buy insurance.
