Calculating The Budget For Dream Destination Weddings
These days, more and more couples are opting to ditch traditional ceremonies at home
and head off to exotic destinations instead for romantic nuptials by the sparkling ocean, at the top of majestic mountains or surrounded by lush tropical gardens.
Destination weddings can often be the cheaper option with the average UK wedding costing nearly 20,000 and the cost of Caribbean weddings averaging at just 6,000.
However, despite the significant savings that can be made by choosing weddings abroad, it is important to calculate a budget for the big day, just like you would if you were planning a ceremony at home.
The first thing couples must decide is where they would like to get married abroad. There are many choices available to brides and grooms in exotic destinations all over the world, from tropical Caribbean islands including St Lucia, Barbados or Jamaica, to countries that are rich in history and culture such as Italy, Spain and Greece.
Once the location has been decided couples must next choose how they are going to arrange their weddings; whether they opt for ready-made wedding packages or choose to organise each element of the occasion separately.
There are many travel agents, tour operators and wedding planning companies that specialise in organising destination weddings across the world. Wedding packages can often be the cheaper and less stressful option but couples will be restricted on features such as the choice of flowers and catering. Booking everything separately will allow couples to get their dream wedding but they will need to carry out extensive research including legal requirement for marriages at their chosen destination. By hiring a local wedding coordinator or arranging the wedding through a specialist tour operator based at home but with direct connections to the wedding destination abroad, brides and grooms can rely on them for their expertise and local knowledge, as well as organising the details prior to their arrival for the wedding.
Another reason why so many more couples are getting married abroad is because of the ever-expanding guest lists often associated with traditional ceremonies at home. One advantage to overseas weddings is that couples can limit the number of guests. However, it is customary to pay for the accommodation and food for all guests that are attending the wedding and this can make a huge dent in the wedding budget. Many hotels and resorts offer reduced rates for wedding parties of a certain size.
When organising a wedding in a foreign country, couples should be aware of the extra expenses aside from the wedding itself. These can include insurance, legal fees, travel visas, local taxes, wedding outfits and wedding rings. Lots of newlyweds also celebrate their nuptials with a party at home for all of the family and friends who they could not invite to the wedding. These should all be considered when planning dream wedding abroads.
The key thing to organising weddings in foreign destinations is to plan ahead and do lots of research to ensure the event goes as smoothly as possible and is a happy and memorable experience for everyone.
