Cable Ties - A Tradesmen Guide

In this age of electronic devices, cable television, and lightning fast communication, wherever a cable goes, you can be sure it is held in place by a cable tie.

Ties as a Tool for Work:

There are many different professions that require the use of ties on the job. Any worker that is expected to install wiring systems will have specialised ties for their profession. Electricians need them to keep electrical wires separated into groups. Ties are kept with his tools. Appliance repairmen use them. Car mechanics love them. When your television or internet provider comes to your home to install a new system, he will be carrying ties in his tool pouch.

Ties Travel All Over the World:

You can find these ties used all over the world. They are used in the construction of airplane cockpits. They end up on ships at sea. Ties are even used on the ocean floor to hold transatlantic cables together. Wherever there is a need to organise and separate wires into logical groups, these ties do the job.

Cable Ties Come In Hundreds of Different Styles:

There are more than 400 different types of ties, possibly more. There are too many variations to list all of them here, so I will go over a few of the different types of ties that are available on the market.

1. Ties by Weight Classification - These ties are labelled as miniature, intermediate, standard, heavy duty and extra heavy duty. The ties are labelled according to the amount of weight they would be able to hold for bundling wires.

2. Metal Detectable Ties - These specially-designed ties are made to be easily identified by x-ray machines and metal detectors. They are made for businesses that have to pass safety standards with government agencies like The Food and Drug Administration.

3. Specialty Ties - These ties are made to be highly resistant to high temperatures, radiation and chemicals.

4. Hook and Loop - These ties are flexible and soft. They are suitable for work projects that need extra gentle handling of components. Hook and loop material, or Velcro, is simple and easy to use.

5. Mounted Cable -These ties are made strong for bearing weight and holding mounted objects.

6. Identification Write-On - These ties are great for marking, naming and organising bundles of wires. Labelling ties is a quick, safe and efficient way of keeping track of large groups of wires that have different functions.

The cable tie is an extremely valuable tool. The entire technological world seems to be held together by the organising capacities of these ingenious inventions. Without the cable tie, the world would be one giant tangle of wires.
