A police officer is to be jailed after footage captured from a CCTV security system in a London prison seen him assaulting a woman who had just been arrested.

The video footage shows the police man drag the woman along the ground and then throw her into a cell. In the process, the woman hit her head on the door and later required stitches due to the injuries sustained.

After being reported to the authorities by a colleague, formal investigations were carried out into trying to establish what had happened.

This week, the footage of the CCTV security system in London was able to capture enough evidence of Sergeant Mark Andrews assaulting the lady to see Oxford Magistrates' Court sentence him to six months in prison.

According to a report by The Sun, before dragging her to a cell, Sergeant Andrews was heard shouting on the CCTV security system footage.

He is heard saying: "Shut up. Listen to me. You are in my custody now and you will be quiet and you will listen. Do you understand?"

Pamela Somerville was aged 58 when she was arrested for being found asleep inside her car back in 2008 along a country lane in Wiltshire. She was then arrested as she failed to provide police officers with a breath sample. Following the assault, Ms Somerville received a formal apology from Wiltshire police.

The defence claim that Ms Somerville had had an argument with her partner and was sitting in her car listening to music when she was approached by the police on suspicion of drink driving.

Jailing the 37-year-old former soldier, Deputy District Judge Peter Greenfield said: "I consider that right thinking members of the public will be appalled and totally saddened by your actions as a police officer.
