Buying trucks at online auctions? A few things you may not have known

Buying trucks at online auctions? A few things you may not have known

I have spoken to a number of people about how they source their commercial fleet

and time and again I hear them talk about regular auctions, used vehicle depots etc and I still wonder why they do not go to online auctions. The deeper I dug, the more apparent the problem became. Most online auction houses capitalise on trucks as their moan selling point and so most fleet buyers rarely hear about the other great things that pass through their virtual doors. Despite the large volume of trucks that they deal with, you might be interested to know that they get refrigerated trailers, steam rollers, oil tankers, trailer cranes and much, much more.

So next time you have a unique need, try not to discount online auctions because there is plenty of choice there too.

Further to this, another common thing I hear about regarding online truck auctions is risk. The seasoned veteran fleet buyers out there will have attended a multitude of auctions in their time and at these auctions they will have been able to check out the vehicle lots themselves before making the decision to purchase. The problem they keep reciting is the inability for them to check out the vehicle before hand at online truck auctions. What they and perhaps you might not know is that reputable online auction houses do actually care about their reputation and so they go to great lengths to protect their image. One way some of them are trying to do this is by carrying out preliminary checks on their vehicles to ensure that the vehicle does indeed match the seller's description. There are others who will do all this and will even take photographs of the vehicle after its inspection so that you can see precisely what it is that you are buying.

With this in mind then, how do you feel about using online truck auctions for more than just commercial trucks? If you did not know to look in these places, the chances are many others still do not. This means that there is a multitude of commercial fleet lots going to auction every single day that many simply do not know about, leaving more for you.

Now, all this is fine if you happen to be a commercial fleet buyer, but what if you are trying to sell your unwanted fleet? How does this help you? Well the first benefit of online auctions is their reach. There is no need for you to deliver your fleet to an auction house for a chance of selling it, you merely need to contact an online auction house who will inspect and list your vehicle for you. This saves you the associated logistics costs. Not only this, but many online auction houses add their margin on to the final selling price so that it costs commercial sellers absolutely nothing to list their vehicles, they still receive the full amount on the sale of their vehicles which makes it a cost effective way of disposing of unused trucks and commercial fleet. You just need to be available to hand over the keys and logbook when someone comes to pick up the vehicle.

This should hopefully eliminate some of the fog that makes online auctions so murky and mysterious. More and more online auction houses are taking ownership of the risk by inspecting their listings and some use escrow methods and other payment options to further safeguard your buying experience. So if you thought online auctions were not for you, think again! You may be pleasantly surprised.
