Buyer Dishonesty

If you are trying to sell your car it is worth being wary of certain buyers. A lot of buyers assume that if you are trying to sell your car you are a dodgy used car salesman who uses every dirty trick in the book in order to make the sale. It just so happens that a lot of car salesmen aren't actually that dodgy. The same can be said for buyers, but there are a few out there that will try their best to either lie their way into a sale that will rip you off or actually rip you off without a sale. There are some pretty easy things to look out for when you sell your car. Don't become a theft statistic.

One of the most common dodgy buyer tricks is to offer you a ridiculous price and then backing up their offer with the claim that they are able to go and get the same car at the same price on the other side of town. This is a pretty easy one to deflect. Tell them to go buy it. If your price is so terrible after they have been elsewhere and got a better price why are they even standing there talking to you? If you sell your car to someone who makes such a claim you might've just jibbed yourself a few thousand pounds. These are normally the same type of buyer who falls into the next category.

The test drives of no return. These are people who take your car on a test drive and don't come back... ever. Well, until you've reported the car stolen and the police have laughed at you behind your back. If you manage to get your car back and it hasn't been wrapped around a power pole or driven into a lake you might want to make a note to go with the test driver next time. If you are unable to do that then at least get their wallet and car keys off them before they go driving; although this is by no means the best solution. You are always better staying with the vehicle when someone is looking at it, this means going with them during the test drive when you are attempting to sell your car.
