Novello Theatre London is located in the city of Westminster
, in the West End London. It was built along with the Aldwych Theatre with both of them lying on either side of Waldorf Hotel and was initially named after the hotel. It opened for audiences on 22nd May 1905 and was christened as Strand Theatre on 1909 and as Whitney Theatre in 1911, only to rechristen as Strand after two years. Its owners Delfont Mackintosh Theatres decided to give it its current name after Ivor Novello, the British composer, actor and singer. Novello lived in a flat above the theatre between 1913 and 1950.Arsenic and Old Lace and Sailor, Beware are some of the shows that enjoyed long runs in 1930s and 40s here.
