Bulldog Stuffed Animal
With so many toy dogs to choose from, how do you know which one is best for you
? If it's looks alone that attract you, then a bulldog stuffed animal should rank high on your list. With its short legs, compact body, and signature massive head with extra skin falling in folds on its skull and forehead, a bulldog stuffed animal, is just about as adorable as it gets.It was in 1568, when the term "bulldog" was first used and then may have gone on to be used as the species description for different ancestors of modern bulldog breeds. The Molossian dog which came from Phonetician traders, is believed to have been the ancestor of the Bulldog. Origins for the species were in the British Isles and the term "bull" was applied to the breed because it was used in bull baiting a sport very popular during the 1600s in England whereby the dog was put in a ring with a bull and was required to pin and hold it by the nose. Dog fighting in England became illegal in 1835 and as was the case, the English Bulldog was no longer of much use. There were dog lovers, however, who went on to preserve the breed by going on to get rid of its ferocious and savage characteristics and instead accentuate its better qualities.
There have been theories that the bulldogs were bred in England crossing the Mastiff with the Pug, but given the fact that the Pug wasn't in Europe until the late 16th century, it doesn't seem possible that this particular breed had anything to do with the Bulldog. Over a period of time, however, the Old English Bulldog was crossed with the pug and the outcome was a wider, shorter dog with a short, broad head. The bulldog we know today still looks as tough as ever but it would never be able to do the job it was originally created for given it couldn't handle the running and throwing from a bull.
The Bulldog Club of England was created in 1878 and is the oldest single breed club. The standards for the breed were written by members of the club who often met on Oxford Street (in England) at the Blue Post Club. Orry and Dockleaf, two top bulldogs of 1891, both competed in a competition to see which one of them could walk the farthest. Orry was built much like the original bulldog and as was the case, was very athletic and lighter boned. Dockleaf, on the other hand, looked more like a modern bulldog heavier set and smaller. Dockleaf went on to win the contest that year although there were some that argued that dogs like Orry were much better fit for performing. However, Dockleaf's modern looks won over the fans given he proved that was just as capable (and fit) to win a competition.
A bulldog stuffed animal requires as much human attention as the real thing does so as to keep it happy. It's a real couch potato so it makes a great plush toy to snuggle up with when watching a favorite television show or movie. Thankfully, unlike the real thing, a bulldog stuffed animal won't drool and slobber since there's no need for it to eat and drink.
