Build A Better Marriage - Don't Live Frustrated and Angry With Your Spouse
Aren't you tired of being unhappy and desire to build a better marriage
? It's really possible to stop growing apart from the love of your life and reconnect and get the marriage you often dream about.I know it hurts when all of your energy is zapped by fighting and plotting ways to get under your spouses skin. It can easily become habit-forming to want to get even with your partner for every little thing. Sometimes it seems like a contest to see who can out do who in aggravating each other.
So how do you end the sadness and madness and build a better marriage?
First, I would suggest you and your spouse take a time-out. I know you probably think time-outs are for kids but adults sometimes need to take a break as well. You won't believe how refreshing taking a week off from attacking and hurting each other with your words or deeds can be. Agree that for the next 7 days that the following will be off-limits;
Yelling
Sarcastic remarks
Rolling eyes or sighing like a balloon losing air
Negative comments about your spouse to family, friends or neighbors
Negative text messages, emails or voice messages
Next, I would suggest that you try to replace some of the marriage killing behaviors with some positive ways to build a better marriage. For the same 7 day period try doing some of the following;
Find at least one thing each day to thank your spouse for
Do something nice for your spouse that is unexpected. Make the bed, cook a meal, do an overdue project, pick up the kids from school etc. There are so many ways to be kind to your spouse you don't even have to think hard
Give your spouse a hug and a kiss in the morning and before bed (even if you are still seething and have resentment in your heart do this)
Be as polite as you can possibly be
Tell your spouse you love him or her
If you really want to build a better marriage then you will both take one week and stop doing things that make you unhappy, frustrated and angry and feel like you want a divorce. Simply replace the negative things with marriage building behaviors and see if you like the old marriage or the one where you show respect and love for each other i.e., the better marriage.
Now, I don't want to pretend that because you have a great week that all of your work to build a better marriage is over. However, you should get a taste of how good and wonderful marriage can be again. You will find that you are more intimate and more likely to enjoy being around each other when you are at peace.
I know first hand how frustrating marriage can be when you are going in opposite directions. If you don't take steps to build a better marriage now you will certainly have big issues down the road that can lead to separation or divorce.
