British Airways offers generous free hand baggage allowance for passengers booking tickets with it. However, the airline stipulates specific size and weight restrictions for the passengers to follow. Passengers are allowed to carry one piece of hand baggage plus a laptop or handbag. A 23kg maximum bag weight applies and one must be able to lift the bag unaided into the overhead lockers in the aircraft cabin.

The dimensions for the main piece of hand baggage are up to 56cm x 45cm x 25cm, including the handle, pockets and wheels. Additionally, the bag must fit into the bag gauge, available at the check-in area. For laptop or handbag the dimension restrictions are 45cm x 36cm x 20cm, including the handle and pockets.

Adults flying to India with children aged 2 and over can carry one bag and one laptop-sized bag, handbag or briefcase weighing not more than 23kg. Those travelling with infants (under 2 years) can carry one bag i.e., for items that the infant may require during the flight.

Checked baggage

India-bound passengers flying with BA are entitled to a free checked baggage allowance, which varies according to the class of travel and ticket type booked. Any bag that is heavier than the free weight allowance may incur an overweight baggage charge!

The airline has specific size and weight limit restrictions for the free baggage allowance. The maximum dimensions for checked baggage as 90cm x 75cm x 43cm, including the handle, pockets and wheels.

Travellers spending money on BAs First Club World (business class) can carry three bags up to 32kg (70lb). British Airways will waive the heavy bag charges.

Those who travel to India in BAs Club Europe (business class) can carry two bags up to 32kg (70lb). British Airways will waive off the heavy bag charges.

Passengers opting for relatively cheap flights to India and flying in BAs World Traveller plus (Premium economy class) can carry two bags up to 23kg (51lb).
