Breast Augmentation: 5 Steps To Prepare For Surgery

Breast Augmentation: 5 Steps To Prepare For Surgery

For some, the decision to get breast augmentation is one of the easiest ones they've ever made

. For others, it comes at the conclusion of a long period of careful thought and consideration. No matter which route you took to arrive at your choice, the time has almost come to go in for surgery. This is an exciting and nerve-wracking time for any patient, but there are some things you need to do to prepare. The more you can prepare ahead of time, the less reason you'll need to be fearful and anxious about the aftermath of the procedure. Here are 5 steps you should take to prepare for surgery.

Buy a Comfortable Bra

You may be looking at breast augmentation as a way to free yourself from wearing a bra, but this isn't the best idea in all circumstances. While your new implants should "hold up" better than natural breasts, you will still require some measure of support, particularly in the beginning. Doctors advise buying a comfortable bra that will fit your new cup size for the days and weeks following surgery.

One of the best purchases you can make in preparation for breast augmentation surgery is a button down shirt or two. You may be surprised at how unpleasant it will be to hold your arms above your head in the days following the operation. With a button down, you won't have to worry about making that movement. Wear it to the operation and for as long as you need afterwards.

Get Your Home in Order

The last thing you'll feel like doing after surgery will be cleaning your house. Do a favor for your future self and clean your home well. Not only will you be able to relax if everything is nice and tidy, but you won't have to worry about tripping over dirty clothes and toys.

Medication

If you're on any medication prior to surgery, let your doctor know about it. He may want to make adjustments for the benefit of both the operation and your recovery. This especially applies to aspirin, which has a thinning effect on blood. Not only can this lead to excessive bleeding during the operation, but it could hinder recovery by making it difficult for your incisions to properly clot and scab over.

Stay Hydrated

You won't be able to drink anything past midnight on the night before your surgery, but you should be well hydrated in the days preceding the operation. Good hydration means good health and it can help you avoid nausea after the breast augmentation has been performed. Drink lots of water!
