Some research studies demonstrate that birthday cakes were made in the early times when the Greeks would make an offering to Artemis, the Goddess of Moon, round-shaped cakes that represented the shape of the moon.

Later on, during the Middle Ages in Germany, birthday cakes started to become a home tradition and became iconic of commemoration of the birth of a person, and of a baby in particular.
