Best Monuments To Photograph In Washington, D.c

Washington D.C., The Nations Capitol, is truly a place to find all the monuments and memorials you could ever want to photograph

. The history of the United States is captured in stone in the city. You can find statues and monuments dedicated to politicians, generals and even the erstwhile poet. A number of the plaques and memorials aren't located on the Mall, which is arguably the one area for monuments that is known by most of the visitors to D.C. It might surprise you to know that some can be found in the strangest of places such as street corners and highway medians. You can see all of the memorials and statues on foot or as a part of a tour. Traffic is generally so bad that driving from spot to spot would be a total nightmare.

Not to be morbid but some of the best photo ops can be found at the Arlington National Cemetery. This is the place where all of our fallen war heroes are laid to rest. The array of crosses and beautifully appointed grounds can make a statement as soft as a whisper or as loud as a cannon shot. Cemeteries are great for human-interest photographs and there are always visitors at this one. Take documentary type photographs of the awe this place inspires on the faces of those who come to pay their respects.

Although not as well known as some of the other memorials along the mall, the D.C War Memorial can make a great portrait backdrop as your pictorial will tell the tail of the thousands of DC citizens who fought and died in WWI. Travel to the Gallery that houses the depiction of one of the greatest presidents this country has ever seen. The Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial is located on Ohio Dr. a stone's throw from the Lincoln memorial. It is has four outdoor galleries with bust and statues one for each of his terms of office.

The Marine Corps War Memorial is not far away from the Arlington National Cemetery, or as they officially named it the Iwo Jima War memorial. This is a lasting tribute to the men who fought so bravely in one of the most widely know battles of WWII. There is also the African American civil War Museum and Memorial where you can photograph staged scenes of the patriotic Black men who fought to free themselves and the mind of a nation.Best Monuments To Photograph In Washington, D.c

All of these memorials are well lit at night and most have open access. This is being mentioned, because you can truly get some great shots underneath the moonlight. A nighttime photograph does not have the same feel or tell the same story as one made in the harshness of day. Photographing the sights and sounds of the people around these memorials can be as interesting as the memorials themselves.
