Bermuda - The Pink Sand Paradise

The sub tropical island of Bermuda is a real draw for sun lovers. It boasts some of the world's most truly stunning beaches. Whether you are looking for sweeping stretches of clean unspoiled sand, secluded coves or child friendly shallows there is something to meet the highest expectations of any beach connoisseur.

The beaches are perhaps best known for the soft pink colour of the sand. This is created from flecks of the remains of tiny organisms known as red foam, tiny scarlet protozoans of the order Foraminifera. These combine with particles of broken shells and ground down coral to create the distinctive hues that make Bermuda's beaches a true natural wonder.

The shallow turquoise waters that lap at the beach shores provide the perfect playground for water lovers. Swimming, kayaking or snorkelling in these warm waters are just some of the ways to idle away the hours. The deeper blue waters are full of promise for divers. An underwater world full of colourful coral and shipwrecks provide both beginners and seasoned divers with plenty to explore.Bermuda - The Pink Sand Paradise

Bermuda's South Shore is the placed to head if you are looking for long stretches of sand with lots of water based activities. Head to Horseshoe Bay, Warwick Long Bay and Warwick Park which combine to form a 1.5 mile long coastal park perfect for swimming, surfing, kite boarding and lots lots more. Elbow Beach and John Smith's bay are also popular with locals and visitors. Or if you are looking for more peaceful locations search out some of the smaller beaches such as Parson's Bay, Mangrove Bay and Clarence Cove for quiet days relaxing in the sun.

Though the South Shore is popular, other areas of Bermuda are not to be missed. Nature lovers are in for a real treat in March and April when migrating humpback whales can be seen at West Whale Bay, on the Western end of Southampton Parish. Alternatively visit Astwood Cove, in Warwick Parish, a rocky shoreline popular with both snorkellers and naturalists looking to spot Bermuda longtails nesting in the nearby cliffs.

Families are well catered for with many of the beaches offering child friendly activities. Snorkel Park Beach located in the Royal Naval Dockyard offers perhaps the biggest selection of entertainment for families. Choose from guided tours of the island on jet skis, kayaking in the shallow waters, snorkelling over pristine coral reefs, racing down giant water slides, or letting the kids loose on large inflatable toys or paddle boats. Whatever you choose you are guaranteed hours of family fun in an absolutely stunning location.
