Devon's Coastline

Both coasts in Devon provide the perfect opportunity to experience water sports that you have never tried before. Such coastal areas have many water sports companies offering a range of tuition or hire services. Why not try windsurfing, surfing, kite surfing, stand-up paddle boarding or even abseiling, coasteering or rock climbing.

The South West Coast Path covers 630 miles of superb coastal walking and is one of the best ways to explore Devon's superb coastline, heritage and wildlife. You could even enter bordering counties such as Dorset, Cornwall or Somerset and expand your journey even more.

Other than offering an opportunity for water sports and walking, Devon's coastline also has a number of quaint, picturesque towns dotted along the shore. Some 'must see' towns on the South Coast in South Hams include Dartmouth with its luxury Devon hotels, renowned restaurants and cafes and the town of Salcombe which is lined with boutique shops, galleries and restaurants. Towns on the North Coast include Woolacombe Bay with its 3 mile sandy beach, Ilfracombe and the historic fishing village of Clovelly.

Devon has a diverse countryside which varies quite dramatically if you ever have the chance of driving from one coast to the other. In the heart of the county lies Dartmoor National Park with its heather clad rolling hills, stone tors and ancient woodland. Devon's landscape also provides the perfect arable farmland where quality produce is quickly distributed to South West restaurants and hotels. Heading north, near towns such as Lynton and Lynmouth you'll find the other Devon wonder, Exmoor National Park which is situated right on the coastline and covers 189 acres.

There is much to keep you occupied in Autumn in Devon. If you come across any showers during your trip and you don't feel that trekking across Dartmoor is your cup of tea then check out some of the national trust houses, heritage sites or family adventure parks.
