Autism is supposedly a complex disability of development that typically appears in childhood and is the result of a brain disorder that affects the normal function of brain. Both children and adults with autism typically show difficulty in social interactions, impaired verbal and nonverbal communication, a pattern of repetitive behavior with narrow, restricted interests or even playing activities etc.

A child with this disorder often displays abnormal reactions, touches can be often a painful experience, mild smells can be perceived as unpleasant, loud noises like or crowded places can trigger extended crying sessions, all these are typical symptoms of autism. Other signs and symptoms among children affected by autism are: they appear not to respond appropriately to surroundings, a lack of interest, lack of response, preference for loneliness, resistance to cuddles. Impaired language development is a major drawback for children with autism. They are known to face difficulty while expressing needs and are also prone to laughing, crying or showing distress for reasons unknown.

Types of autism include pervasive developmental disorder, asperser's disorder, retts disorder, pervasive developmental disorder etc. Asperser's disorder is a neurological characterized by varying degrees of impairments in language and communication skills along with repetitive or restrictive thought patterns and behavior. Retts disorder, also known as autism spectrum disorder, is characterized by different degrees of impairment in communication skills and social interactions, restricted repetitive and stereotyped patterns of behavior. Pervasive developmental disorder is also known as atypical autism in children. With this disorder children have many of the same characteristics of autism, but not all associated with autism.Autism in Children: Types & Medication


Autism medication can be classified as antipsychotic, anticonvulsant, anti anxiety and depression, stimulant and sedative medications. Antipsychotic medications are used for behavioral problems including aggression, tantrums or even insomnia. Behavioral therapy should be tried before resorting to these types of pills. To control seizures, anticonvulsants can be of help for autistic persons affected thus. Anxiety and depression occurring in autistic children have a hard time controlling their feelings as they sometimes laugh or crying with no reasons whatsoever. To control their feelings and random outbursts these medications are used. Stimulant drugs are used for children suffering from hyperactive activities. These medications help children focus better. This medication helps those children who have difficulties standing on a fixed location. Sedative drugs are used for insomnia or other sleeping disorders; a doctor prescribes a sedative to help one sleep better. Medications are often used to treat problems related to behavior which include, but not limited to, aggression, self injurious behavior and severe tantrums that withhold children with autism from performing more effectively at home or school.

There are many symptoms of autism in children and they are by far manageable effectively. Most autistic children have difficulty communicating with speaking problems and problems expressing themselves. Many autistic children display repetitive behaviors like swinging an object in their hands back and forth, or pushing a toy forward and backward. Some autistic children display compulsive behavior such as arranging objects in order.
