Australia Travel

Australia offers travelers a diverse, fascinating and entertaining vacation

, from modern cities to the Outback, desert to rain forest, stunning beaches and the Great Barrier Reef, unique wildlife and landscapes and much more. It can however, be a challenging time for unprepared visitors. If you are considering traveling to Australia, here's what you need to know.

Firstly, remember that the southern hemisphere's seasons are reversed, making it ideal for the northern hemisphere's travelers to visit during their summer break. Even in winter - April through September - temperatures in Australia will vary between 66 and 88 degrees Fahrenheit. Days will be warn, but nights are cold.

Also consider the size. Traveling from Sydney to Perth by car will take the better part of a week, so if you plan to see a lot of the country, you may want to consider local flights rather than long drives.

Bigger cities will provide entertainment that will keep everyone busy for weeks. Each city has it's own special charm.

If you are planning on a road trip into the Outback, you will need to make extremely thorough preparations, and be well equipped to handle the harsh landscape and conditions you will encounter. Join a guided trip if you haven't experienced off roading. It wouldn't be good to get stuck, as distances can be very long.

There are many fascinating animals like koalas. Many of the reptiles and insects are unfriendly. Use insect repellent regularly, wear long pants and boots when hiking or walking in nature, and be sensible when approaching wildlife.

Australia has many beautiful beaches. There are sting rays and sharks everywhere, so only swim in marked areas. The Great Barrier Reef will be a once in a lifetime experience.

Most States in Australia offer free camping sites, usually with a time limit of between 24 and 48 hours. These may offer toilets and tables, or nothing at all. The National Parks will offer affordable camping areas.

You will get to see informal, friendly atmospheres, as well as natural beauty. Winters are harsh, so don't forget your sunscreen.
