Asheville Man Injured In Accident
A recent accident sent one Asheville man to the hospital with three fractures to his left hip
. Police say that 25-year-old Aaron Stahl of Asheville was traveling with two other passengers in his car when he was struck by a van driven by Robert Womack, 51 of Louisville, KY. According to the report, Womack attempted to slow down but was unable to stop before striking the other vehicle, causing Stahl serious personal injury.The incident occurred in Alcoa, TN, and emergency responders transported Stahl to the University of Tennessee Medical Center after extracting him from his vehicle where he had been pinned. According to the police report, Stahl had a head wound in addition to his hip injury. The other passengers in Stahls vehicle suffered only minor scratches and abrasions. Womack refused treatment for the minor cuts that were visible on his head.
Though Womack was cited for not exercising due care, it is not known why he did not at first notice that Stahls vehicle was at a standstill waiting to turn. Police did not indicate that alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident, nor did they say whether Womack was distracted by a cellphone, texting, or some other factor. Something, however, kept him from noticing the stopped vehicle until it was too late to avoid causing personal injury to the other driver.
