Are Shipping Rates Something Which Can Be Negotiated?

Businesses need to work hard to find ways to cut corners and save money wherever they can

. Often, the success of a company is judged by its ability to get as much production out of as small a budget as possible. Many companies don't realize that there is some room for negotiation when they are doing business with a Los Angeles courier service. Their competitors who realize that they can save money by negotiating some savings with their courier quickly find themselves ahead of the game.

Many couriers have a great deal of leeway when it comes to the prices which they charge for shipments. The prices are by no means set firmly in stone although they might want some of their clients to think that they are. Instead, if you ask someone at your courier company if they can provide you with a better rate you may find out that there are ways that they can lower your courier bills.

The first step you will have to take to try and pay less on courier shipments is opening an account with a courier company. Most courier companies won't negotiate their prices or rates with anyone that doesn't have an account with them. In fact, some companies will give you an instant savings just for opening an account, so this is something that you should always consider doing anyway.

Once you have an account with a courier company, you can start trying to find ways to save on your shipping, but you will have to bring this up with them. Don't ever expect a courier to approach you with a way to obtain a lower rate, as this holds no advantage for them. However, if you ask them if there is flexibility in this regard; they may see offering you a discount as a way to retain your business.

When you're trying to negotiate a shipping rate, the best thing you can do is try and negotiate an overall preferred rate. Don't waste your time trying to only negotiate a better price on a single delivery. Although you may obtain it, it isn't going to amount to any significant savings. Instead, you want to try to get the courier to offer you some kind of preferred corporate rate. Even if you can get a tiny discount which applies to all of your shipments, you will find that the savings mount considerably over a long amount of time.
